The Cancer Council of Victoria web site www.cancervic.org.au/  has more than 1,000 easy-to-navigate pages, it is now one of the most sophisticated cancer information sites in Australia.   As well as a useful resource for general practice, the new website is a great tool for helping those diagnosed with cancer and their families to understand the disease, its treatment, and the support available. Please see the attached media alert for further details about the content of the new website.

The RCH announces around 20 new and updated parent info factsheets on the RCH Kids Health Info website.  These include common and less common conditions and procedures and I hope at least some of these plus other info on the site is useful to you and the children/parents you see – see the list below.

  • Cerebral palsy – an overview
  • G6PD deficiency
  • Henoch-Schonlein Purpura (HSP)
  • Nuclear Medicine
  • Thoratec VAD (pre- heart transplant)

  • Brain injury – toileting, physical activity, bathing and dressing, living skills, period management, sexuality and physical activity for children with a disability.

A medical student recently completed a parent study in the RCH emergency department.  This study showed that almost all parents (97%) who used the Kids Health Info website found it extremely useful and trustworthy, but only around 20% of parents actually knew the site existed.  Please help us to spread the word about this useful resource by forwarding this email and encouraging people to join our mailing list:

www.dualdiagnosis.org.au  is intended to be a clearing house of resources, information and discussion for consumers and health professionals interested in achieving better outcomes for person with both mental health and substance treatment needs
