headspace

headspace Central West Gippsland

Established in 2006 under the Federal Governments Promoting Mental Health – Youth Mental Health initiative, headspace is Australia’s National Youth Mental Health Foundation. The headspace mission is to deliver improvements in the mental health, social wellbeing and economic participation of young Australian’s aged 12-25.
headspace services are one-stop-shops offering ‘youth-friendly’, community based health services that have been specifically developed for young people, aged 12 – 25 and their families. They are places where young people can receive free or low cost help and support for a range of issues including health, mental health, education, work, and drug and alcohol problems. Not only are our services staffed by professionals who have specific expertise in working with young people, they are places where young people and their
families are encouraged to become involved.

Centre of Excellence

The Centre of Excellence in Youth Mental Health provides headspace centres with the latest research on diagnosis and treatment so that communities have the capacity to understand how to intervene earlier when mental health issues occur, as well as to identify when acute care is required. The vision of the Centre of Excellence is to establish itself as the definitive source of evidence and information regarding best practice and early intervention in youth mental health, and to be a leader – both nationally and internationally – in enerating new research that extends the burgeoning area of youth mental health.

Evidence Summaries

Mythbusters

headspace Mythbusters are prepared by the Centre of Excellence in Youth Mental Health. The series aims to unveil common myths which are contrary to research evidence about mental health and substance abuse problems affecting young people.
